Prairie Restoration Library
People from every walk of life are discovering the benefits and beauty of native prairies. Some are new to native grasses and wildflowers while others are deep into a search for technical information about restoration, cost sharing and more. Whatever your place on this journey, the Prairie Restoration Library is a “one stop shop” designed just for you. There are two ways to utilize the Prairie Restoration Library. Viking Library System patrons who hold a library card may search the on-line Viking Library System for resources by going to: (http://www.viking.lib.mn.us/). Through our partnership with the VLS, patrons may go on-line to request materials, and pick up those items at the Fergus Falls Public Library. Another way to utilize the Prairie Restoration Library is to stop by the Visitor Center at Prairie Wetlands and spend some time at our Library kiosk. The Library is open during normal Visitor Center hours. Our Library has over 300 items available to use on-site. Resources range from children’s books to technical manuals to CDs and DVDs. Topics include prescribed burning, hands-on techniques for restoration and management, native landscaping, and lakescaping. Materials are organized by the Dewey Decimal System. The Prairie Restoration Library includes a computer with high speed Internet access available for use by Libary patrons. We have identified many fantastic web sites related to prairies, which are organized under our Favorite Prairie Links. The computer has vegetative GIS layers for all of the Fergus Falls Wetland Management District, as well as the historical vegetation for the counties of Otter Tail, Wilkin, Grant, Douglas and Wadena. |
